Anderson Jazz:  Duo Trio Quartet

Greetings! I am a guitarist based in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. I am lucky to play with some wonderful musicians in two projects, Anderson Jazz and Vintage Velvet.

Anderson Jazz performs as  Duo, Trio or Quartet, featuring a few of my favourite players, including longtime bandmates John Hyde on bass, and Aaron Amar on drums. John has enjoyed a long career as a jazz and orchestral performer and was the Director of Jazz Studies at Mount Royal University for many years. Aaron is  a first call drummer and has studied in New York with Ari Hoenig.

I have also teamed up with vocalist Mel McCutcheon as part of the quintet  Vintage Velvet (see link at bottom of page). With her great vocal skills and positive energy, the two of us also perform as Anderson Jazz Duo, and as the Trio with John Hyde on bass. We recently performed at 40 Knots Winery (with guest Paul Nuez on trombone) which was hosted by the Georgia Straight Jazz Society (see GJJS link below). I expect a quartet is coming soon...

Starting this summer (August 2025), Mel and I have had the chance to play a few gigs with the amazing Brock Meades on bass. See live recordings below.
